Chrysanthemums
Chrysanthemum, called sevanthi in the south and guldaudi in the north, is the flower that gives a garland its fullness without its weight. The pom-pom heads are threaded closely in white or yellow, and a few red roses set between them are enough to make a haar that photographs well from across a hall.
Most pieces in this category pair chrysanthemum with something else: red-rose-and-chrysanthemum garlands in single or matching pairs, garlands with carnation and roses for receptions, and a light bridal flower-jewellery range in which tuberose meets yellow chrysanthemum for earrings, maang tika and a gajra bracelet. Jasmine kangan finished with a yellow chrysanthemum centre are a popular choice for mehndi guests, as the colour picks up the haldi theme.
Chrysanthemum keeps its shape well in warm rooms and has only a faint, green scent, so it suits guests who find jasmine or tuberose too strong.

Chrysanthemums in Dubai – questions & answers
Does chrysanthemum have a scent?
Very little. Chrysanthemum has a light, slightly green smell that you notice only up close. That makes it a good choice for a garland worn for hours, for guests with sensitivities, or for mixing with jasmine and tuberose when you want colour and volume without adding more perfume.
White or yellow chrysanthemum for a wedding garland?
White chrysanthemum with red roses is the usual reception and varmala look and suits most outfits. Yellow chrysanthemum belongs to the haldi and mehndi, where the bride often wears yellow or green. For a pooja or a temple offering, either colour is appropriate.
Is chrysanthemum used for condolence garlands?
In many South-Asian communities a plain white chrysanthemum or tuberose garland is placed on a photograph at a prayer meeting. If you need one, choose a white piece without red roses and mention the purpose on WhatsApp so we keep the finish simple and leave out bright accents.
