Roses

In South-Asian homes the rose is rarely handed over as a long-stemmed bunch. It is pulled apart into petals and threaded, petal by petal, into the thick red varmala that bride and groom exchange, or knotted as small baby-rose buds between jasmine on a wrist kangan. That is most of what you will find here: rose-petal garlands in matching pairs, tuberose garlands spaced with red and yellow baby roses, chrysanthemum-and-rose haar, bridal flower-jewellery sets in pink rose, and loose red petals sold by weight for showering the couple or filling a puja thali.

Roses reach our Deira workshop before sunrise and are strung on the day of delivery, because a petal garland is at its fullest in its first hours. Red is the usual choice for the jaimala and the nikah, pink for mehndi and bridal jewellery, and mixed red and yellow for welcoming guests.

If a particular shade is short at the market, we replace it with roses of equal or greater value and tell you before dispatch.

Roses in Dubai – questions & answers

How long does a rose-petal garland stay fresh in UAE heat?

Strung on the morning of delivery, a rose-petal haar usually keeps its shape for most of an evening in air-conditioning. Outdoors in summer the petal edges soften within a few hours, so keep it boxed in the fridge, not the freezer, until the ceremony and mist it lightly with water just before it is worn.

Should I choose red or pink roses for the varmala?

Red is the traditional colour for the jaimala and nikah and photographs well against a red or maroon outfit. Pink suits a pastel lehenga, a mehndi or a daytime ceremony. If the couple wear different colours, many families order one matching pair in red and keep a pink garland for the parents.

Can I order loose rose petals for a puja or a welcome shower?

Yes. Red rose petals are sold loose in 100 g packs, packed so they stay moist until use. They are used for showering the couple at the entrance, for the puja thali and for scattering on a bed or table. Tell us the number of guests on WhatsApp and we will suggest a quantity.

Do you deliver roses the same day?
