Vadamalli

Vadamalli is the Tamil name for globe amaranth, a small, papery purple flower head that keeps its colour for days and even dries without fading. That is why it is offered to Murugan and at Vaikunta Ekadasi, and why South-Indian and Sri Lankan families like it in a wedding garland: it still looks bright at the end of a long ceremony.

At the moment it is available as one piece, a garland that alternates white tuberose with bands of purple vadamalli. The tuberose brings the scent and the vadamalli the colour, and the result is closer to a Chennai or Jaffna temple garland than to a North-Indian varmala. It suits a South-Indian wedding, a temple visit, a deity photograph at home or a guest who will not be near a fridge for hours.

Vadamalli in Dubai – questions & answers

What is vadamalli?

Vadamalli is globe amaranth (Gomphrena), known in Tamil as vadamalli and in Malayalam as vaadamalli, meaning the flower that does not fade. Its purple heads are firm and papery, so they keep their colour long after other flowers wilt and can be dried and kept after the ceremony.

Can I order a matching pair of vadamalli garlands?

Yes, with notice. Alongside our vadamalli and tuberose garland, a pair for the bride and groom or several garlands for elders can be prepared when the flowers are available at the market. Message us on WhatsApp with the date and quantity a few days before.

Which occasions suit a vadamalli garland?

It is traditional at Tamil, Malayali and Sri Lankan weddings, at Murugan and Perumal temple visits and on Vaikunta Ekadasi. Because it lasts so long, it is also chosen for a deity photograph at home, a graduation, or for honouring an elder at a long function.

Do you deliver vadamalli the same day?

Yes. Order by 6 PM (UAE time) for same-day delivery in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman, seven days a week; delivery to Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain is next day. You choose the delivery date and a time slot at checkout.

Can I add a message card?

Yes. Write your card message at checkout – we print it and attach it to the flowers.

Which areas do you deliver to?

All seven UAE emirates: Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman same day when you order by 6 PM; Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain next day.

How much does delivery cost?

In Dubai delivery costs AED 19–59 depending on the order value. The exact fee for your emirate is shown at checkout before you pay.
